Ending food insecurity for our community.

Our Programs

Grow Jackson believes in the power of food for many reasons. We believe access to food is food justice, and we believe that achieving food justice is crucial in our work to achieve social and racial justice. We also believe communities come together around food and communities are stronger when everyone in them has healthy food to eat. We know that having the opportunity to choose what kinds of foods to eat is important for families, as is being able to access enough food for everyone at the table. Grow Jackson works so that people have these opportunities to access food. Our Food Reclamation program will make healthy food options accessible for more people. The Grow Jackson Community Garden program will bring the production of those healthy foods into more neighborhoods and help us all achieve food freedom.

Food Rescue

Your support allows Grow Jackson rescues food from area grocery stores and other partners to provide fresh food for the community and keep food from being wasted in landfills. Instead of food that is still good being thrown away, we pick it up and share it with those in need.

Community Gardening

Thanks to you and our community partners, Grow Jackson operates and partners in supporting six gardens within the City of Jackson and surrounding areas. These gardens provide thousands of pounds of fresh food each season. All of the harvested food gets distributed directly to families or fills up our self-serve farm stands so neighbors can come take what they need for themselves, their family, and their community members.

Garden Education

Each summer hundreds of kids from Jackson spend time in a Grow Jackson garden. From our most active volunteers, the amazing students at Rise Above, to kindergarten students spelling and looking for new colors among the flowers and vegetables, the gardens provide a unique educational experience. We believe the educational process is enhanced when we expose students to their food system and their environment up close. Having the skills to grow their own healthy food excites students and inspires ownership of their food in a new way.
